A family gathers in its spacious ancestral home to celebrate their lonely mother’s (Ponnamma) 60th birthday. Jealousies and rivalries erupt focusing on who will inherit the house. The old mother is placed in an institution for geriatrics and dies, leaving the next generation guiltridden, but her grandchildren nevertheless appreciate living in the big house.
