     6watching Eddie Polo silents in his native 
     7Shimoga, Karnataka. Started as actor with 
     8Sarpotdar at Deccan Pics, United Pics and 
     9Aryan. Début as director was left unfinished 
     10when United Pics was sold; the film was 
     11completed by Dhirubhai Desai. Became the 
     12top director of Surya Film (1930), set up in 
     13Bangalore to replicate the Sharda Studio’s 
     14Master Vithal stunt films with Ganpat Bakre 
     15and Zunzharrao Pawar. Turned to Tamil 
     16cinema with sound, mostly making 
     17mythologicals. Briefly worked as cameraman 
     18for Fazalbhoy’s Film City (1934); then went to 
     19the Sundaram Sound Studio where he made his 
     20first Tamil films (Raja Bhakti, Bhasmasur 
     21Mohini, Bhukailasa). Later worked at Jupiter 
     22Studio (Valmiki, Krishna Vijayam). Started his 
     23own Shri Ganesh Prasad Movies (1955) with 
     24Koteshwaran starring Sivaji Ganesan. Best 
     25known for his Telugu and Tamil film of R. 
     26Nagendra Rao’s hit play Bhukailasa. His last
