Shanti Prakash Bakshi (1925-88)
Punjabi and Hindi director; started as scenarist and assistant to the major Punjabi cameraman- director Harcharan Singh Kwatra, scripting Pilpili Saheb (1954) and Teesmar Khan (1955). Kwatra produced Bakshi’s first film Kode Shah, scored by Sardul Kwatra. Like Kwatra, Bakshi was basically a Bombay director making inexpensive Hindi films, often with Hindi stars. Also wrote G K Amarnath/Amarnath?’s Baradari (1955) in Hindi. Directorial début in 1953 with Punjabi films. Made three Hindi features in the late 50s (Mr Chakram, Pataal Pari and Sun To Le Hasina)
