     6of Vishnupant Damle who got him a job at 
     7Prabhat Studio as assistant director. Assisted

     10making of Sant Tukaram (1936) and of the 
     11subsequent Damle-Fattelal films, receiving cod 
     12credit for Sant Sakhu. Played the part of the 
     13boorish Pandit, son of Kakasaheb, in 
     14Shantaram’s classic Kunku/Duniya Na Mane. 
     15Directed the successful Daha Wajta at 
     16Prabhat. Together with Athavale, Datta 
     17Dharmadhikari and Keshavrao Bhole, he 
     18walked out of the studio shortly afterwards, 
     19leaving the studio’s magnum opus 
     20Ramshastri (1944) incomplete. The group 
     21joined Mohan Studio to make Taramati. Started 
     22his own Raja Nene Prod. (1947) co-directing 
     23Dharmadhikari’s first film, Shadi Se Pehle. After 
     24Rajkamal Kalamandir, Nene Prod. was the 
     25second major production house to emerge 
     26from the Prabhat Studio and was followed by 
     27Dharmadhikari’s Alhaad Chitra. Nene’s next 
     28production was the classic Tamasha musical 
     29Patthe Bapurao, reserving the lead part for 
     30himself. Anant Mane later claimed to have 
     31ghost-directed this hit as well as Ketakichya 
     32Banaat. Pehli Tareekh, Nene’s most 
     33successful Hindi film, was remade in Kannada 
     34and Tamil by P. Neelakantan as Modalatedi
