Employed as a policeman in Baroda, he became involved in the amateur theatre (1923-5) and directed Gujarati plays. Made his debut at Laxmi, acting in R.S. Choudhury’s Asha (1926), then joined Royal Art Studio as director. Directed some Indulal Yagnik productions (Kalina Ekka, Rasili Rani), worked at Imperial directing Qatil Kathiyani, at the Kaiser-e-Hind production house and at Sharda studio. Made several love stories at Ranjit with the studio’s leading stars E. Bilimoria and Madhuri. His sound films are mainly in the stunt genre, adapting ArabianNights-type adventures, but he also made some Marathi films such as the historical Shatakarta Shivaji. Set up Pratima Pics (1933) and Honey Talkies (1934). Scripted K.B. Athavale’s Sant Tukaram at Sharda Movietone (1932). Illness forced him to retire. His son Ninu Majumdar became a film composer.
