Nachiketa Ghosh, (1924-76)

Bengali and Hindi composer. A doctor by training; also known as an accomplished tabla player. Trained in music by Anathnath Basu and Latafat Hussain. Worked briefly in radio. His compositions recall [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemanta_Mukherjee|Hemanta Mukherjee]]’s work in defining a typically post- Independence ‘adhunik’ (modern/ contemporary) popular idiom characterised by eclecticism and its sentimental address to an urban middle class. Popular compositions in Joydev and in 70s films like Bilambita Lay, Nishipadma, Dhanyi Meye and Stree. Also set nursery rhymes to music which remained popular.
