     4Est: 1943 as a successor to the Film Advisory

     6propaganda documentaries, shorts and the 
     7Indian News Parade (ancestor to Films 
     8Division’s current Indian News Review). 
     9Started by the British-Indian government, it 
     10required all exhibitors to include up to 2000 ft 
     11of ‘Government-approved film’ in each 
     12screening. This law was incorporated as an 
     13amendment to the Defence of India Act (Rule 
     1444A). In the four years when the IFI was in 
     15force (i.e. before it yielded to the Films 
     16Division), its chief producer was Ezra Mir 
     17and the producer of the Indian News Parade 
     18was William J. Moylan. It produced c.170 shorts 
     19in addition to the newsreels before it closed in 
     201946.
